Release-Time Biblical Education

Pine Grove Baptist has been a sponsor of the S.C., (RTBE), Release-Time Biblical Education for some years.  Teaching the Bible devotionally to public school students during school time but off school premises is Release-Time Bible Education.

The Bible has been and can be legally taught on a devotional basis at a time set aside during the school day when public school students, with parental permission, leave the school premises to attend religious education classes led by religious or community groups. These classes, known as Release-Time programs, are held off school premises, usually in a nearby religious facility or a special bus.

12,000 students across South Carolina attend Release-Time Biblical Education classes each week.  The Clover School District has had a Release-Time Bible Education program since 2001 and now has a 90% attendance rate for students in grades 3 through 6 which amount to about 800 students

What is important is the there is a real correlation between the RTBE program and an increase in academic skills.  There is also a decrease in drug use and negative behavior.  This program has really touched many young people’s hearts.

The first Biblical Studies Release-Time Bible Education was started by a School Superintendent in Indiana in 1914 – In 1952 the Supreme Court upheld the legality of such a program. Since its inception in 1914, millions of students from kindergarten through high school have participated. Currently over 250,000 students participate. The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld Released Time as protected by the Constitution of the United States.
